Pensions funds offshore exposure narrows

The proportion of Botswana pensions funds invested outside the country is declining as local fund managers tussle to find lucrative investments locally.

According to the Non-Banking Financial Institution Regulatory Authority (NBIFRA), offshore investments of Botswana pension funds were P23.9 billion or 50% of total pension assets in 2012.

This was a 12-percentage point decline from the 2011 figures, which placed offshore exposure of pension fund assets at 62% (P21.3 billion).
