FRANCISTOWN: De Beers Chairman, Nicky Oppenheimer yesterday visited Orapa and Letlhakane mines, which have set an annual production target of about 17.3 million carats, as part of his annual visit to Debswana operations.

"Oppenheimer's visit to Orapa is pivotal as it signifies the De Beers chairman's appreciation of our operation," said the mine's Public and Corporate Affairs Manager, Thapelo Letsholo, in a statement.
Letsholo said it was "a great honour to host the De Beers chairman here in Orapa" and that the visit is "an opportunity to share with our key stakeholder the progress we have made to date."
He said the mines take advantage of Oppenheimer's visits to acquaint the magnate with the challenges they face with a view to agreeing on how best the challenges can be resolved:
"When a great man like Oppenheimer visits, he will get to commend us on the good work we have done and chart the way forward for the challenges we face."
Letsholo said he is confident that Debswana will continue as a world-class diamond mining company and that the rest of the world's mining companies will benchmark themselves against.
Just last year, Orapa and Letlhakane mines played host to Sierra Leone President Tejan Kabbah.
