New Debswana boss promises gem quality work

The new Managing Director of Debswana, Jim Gowans, started work this week and expressed his excitement at joining the diamond world's top producer by value, promising to deliver gem quality work for Batswana.

A statement released by Debswana's Public and Corporate Affairs Manager, Esther Kanaimba-Senai, says Gowans, who is on a three-year contract, will focus on maximising the value of Debswana's world-class resource by optimising and improving operations and continuing to develop a strong Batswana management team.

"Debswana continues to make impressive contributions to the growth of the diamond industry across the world," says Gowans. "I am grateful to have joined this remarkable team that will make it possible for me to successfully carry out my duties as the company's Managing Director.  "The ultimate goal is to ensure that our company mines its diamonds safely, optimally and responsibly for the ultimate benefit of the people of Botswana."
