New corporate code threatens certain comfort zones

The Governor of Bank of Botswana (BoB), Linah Mohohlo, is set to lose her dual roles as the Chairperson of the Board and CEO of the central bank when the new and first-ever corporate governance blueprint for Botswana is implemented.

In terms of the draft corporate governance code for Botswana, the board should elect a chairperson, preferably an independent non-executive director. 

"The chairman and chief executive should not be the same person," the proposed code says. "The board must annually review the performance of the chief executive officer who leads management."
