NED councillors unhappy with Masunga NDB base

FRANCISTOWN: North East District (NED) councillors are not happy that the National Development Bank (NDB) has set up base in Masunga.

The councillors fear that the state-owned bank will not serve the district well if it has operations in Masunga only. The bank intends to bring services for one week every month and says this is enough to serve the whole district. But Tsamaya councillor, Reginald Mudongo has said NDB will be providing services to residents of Masunga only and the rest of the villages in the district will not benefit as much as they should."Some people do not have money to go to Masunga in order to get the services they require," he said. He lamented that the initiative from the NDB requires residents to form groups in order to acquire funds.

"People in Tsamaya, Mabudzane and Siviya are faced with a challenge which will hinder them from benefiting from NDB because there is shortage of land," said Mudongo. He added that most people in the area would not benefit much because NED is mostly made up of freehold farms, which are under Tati concession.Siviya councillor Bakani Badziili echoed Mudongo's sentiments when he said most people in the district would not benefit from the initiative."NDB staff is expected to be only in Masunga and this is not good because NED is not only Masunga. Therefore it will be best if they were to cover all the clusters in NED," he said.
