Molefhi calls for more scientific solutions

The Minister of Infrastructure Science and Technology (MIST), Nonofo Molefhi has called for the promotion of quality scientific solutions for sustainable development.

Speaking at the launch of the second instalment of the month of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in Gaborone this week, he said there is need to develop a mass of human resource skilled in scientific and technology fields.

“This will spearhead the transformation of Botswana into a knowledge society primarily through scientific research and innovation,” said Molefhi. He said Botswana has great potential to find a place in the global scientific and economic arena if the human resources is appropriately harnessed. The minister indicated that a national culture of research and development could be achieved through the creation of strong university-industry research collaboration. The STI month was embraced in the 2011 Research Science Technology and Innovation (RSTI) policy implementation plan with the objective of popularising RSTI across society.
