Mmamabula boosts business confidence

The Bank of Botswana's (BoB) latest Business Expectation Survey (BES) shows that Botswana business people are optimistic about economic growth, which they hope will beat official forecasts.

The BES survey, which was carried between March and April 2007, shows that the economy was expected to have realised red-hot growth of 7.5 percent in 2006/07 and slow down to 7 percent in 2007/08.

These expectations beat the government's economic growth forecast for the second half of the National Development Plan IV (NDP 9) of 4.4 percent.
"It is interesting that firms have remained so positive about growth prospects with expectations exceeding government's own published forecasts for the second half of NDP 9 (the Mid-Term Review shows an average of 4.4 percent for this period", the report observes.
