Mining sector will peak in 2013 - report

The mining sector is expected to return to steady growth by 2010 but will not reach its highs of approximately US$6.32 billion net until 2013.

According to the Botswana Mining Index (BMI) report for the third quarter of 2009, the sector will return to growth, albeit at a subdued rate, in 2010.

The BMI report, which was conducted by London-based global markets research firm companiesandmarkets.com, says Botswana's mining sector shrank by six percent in 2008. "By 2013, we expect the industry to reach a value of US$6.32bn, up from US$3.39bn in 2009," the research firm says in the report released this week.
