Miners drilled on risk and insurance

FRANCISTOWN: In collaboration with First National Bank's Corporate Banking Division, Marsh Botswana yesterday held a seminar at Tati River Lodge here to educate mines on risk management and the importance of insuring their businesses from the earliest stage.

The leading risk and insurance services firm that operates in 37 African continent has been operating in Botswana since 1984. Marsh Mining Practice Divisional Executive, Leon Rossouw, told mining representatives that there were many operational challenges that made mining insurance essential.

Rossouw said the operational challenges facing mines included increasing levels of mining activity in natural catastrophe parts of the world, changing seasonal weather patterns, deeper underground water, under water, under ice and high altitudes.
