A Motswana businessman, Modiri Mbaakanyi, yesterday took the mandate of the Botswana Confederation of Commerce Industry and Manpower (BOCCIM) presidency after he got the backing of the BOCCIM council.

Mbaakanyi emerged president at the BOCCIM annual general meeting (AGM) held at Boipuso Hall.
In his acceptance speech, Mbaakanyi said that he would continue the organisation's advocacy role, using non-confrontational methods.

He said the organisation he heads should develop a "business agenda" which shall be in concert with Vision 2016 and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) within the next two years.
Mbaakanyi however raised the widespread concern that the business environment in Botswana continues to experience challenges, such as crime and high costs of doing business.
