The Tawana Land Board is holding its peace on reasons for rejecting Chobe Holdings' bid to retain the lucrative Kanana Camp, a 16-bed tourist haven in the southwest of the Okavango Delta.

Recently, the Botswana Stock Exchange-listed (BSE) company announced that five of its leases were up for renewal, with the Kanana Camp already rejected by the Tawana Land Board. Other leases up for renewal include Camp Moremi, Camp Okavango, Shinde Camp and Savute Safari Lodge.

Undertaking to participate in the re-tender, Chobe directors said the land board had not explained the rejection of their application for Kanana Camp. This week, the land board sidestepped enquiries on the rejection, confirming only that Chobe's 15-year lease for Kanana Camp would expire on December 31 and a re-tender would take place.
