Lucara Diamond Corporation’s first exceptional tender of the year of 10 stones from Karowe Mine fetched $51.3 million (P560 million, the BSE listed company says. The miner, well known for discovering the 1,111-carat Lesedi La Rona, said it sold seven diamonds for more than $2 million each at the tender on April 13.

The largest was a 296.7-carat stone that fetched $12.19 million, or $41,008 per carat, while a 245.4-carat diamond went for $10.49 million. All diamonds were sourced from the company’s Karowe mine near Orapa, with the highest average price per carat coming in at $58,931 for a 119-carat gem, the company said.

“The results from this tender continue to demonstrate the strength of the exceptional stone market,” William Lamb, Lucara’s president and chief executive, said. “We are very pleased with the quality of the diamonds being recovered which is evident in the consistent average value per carat achieved.”
