Journalists joined officials of the Botswana Tourism Board (BTB) and Botswana Railways (BR) officials as well as a smattering of members of the public had the opportunity to savour the pleasure and comfort of travelling on a South African private steam engine owned by Rovos Rail.

The locomotive made a stopover at Gaborone Station on Thursday night. It was en route to Victoria Falls on a journey that started in the South African capital, Pretoria, on Wednesday night, coasting at an easy 60 km/hr.

Its sumptuous coaches resemble the one on permanent display at the National Museum and Art Gallery in Gaborone - circa late 19th/early 20th Century vintage. Courteous members of the crew say old-age pensioners are the main customers of the luxury train.
