Japanese funds available to Botswana

The Botswana government and the country's private sector have been encouraged to take advantage of funds available to them through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)'s Official Development Assistance (ODA) loans from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and the Japanese Embassy at the Gaborone Sun on Monday, Japanese ambassador to Botswana, Ryoichi Matsuyama, said as a result of the 4th Tokyo International Conference on African Development, Japan had doubled ODA funds and made a commitment to double the amount of Japanese private investment in Africa by 2012.

With its external borrowing limits maxed out, the Japanese government intended to raise P10 billion on the local market between now and 2013.
