Inflation rises after four month downward spiral

*Water and fuel prices contribute to rise
Last month's increases in fuel prices and water tariffs pushed the May annual inflation figures northwards ending a four month downward spiral. Annual Inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which has been falling since January, last month edged up by 0.2 percentage points from 7.5 percent in April to 7.7 percent.

 In a statement, Statistics Botswana (SB) say that three group indices recorded increases of above one percent between April and May including Housing, Water and Electricity (3.5 percent); Transport (2.6 percent) and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (1.8 percent).

"The increase in water supply & miscellaneous services section index was attributed to the revised water tariffs, which were effected on  May 1st, 2012.
