The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Solomon Sekwakwa has rapped officials at the Ministry of Local Government (MLG) for incompetence, after the department of local government finance and procurement bust its 2011 budget by P23 million.

According to the 2011 Auditor General Report, the MLG overspent funds warranted to them by P15 million due to the P23 million over-expenditure by the department. MLG officials attributed the development  to a technical error in the government accounting and budgeting system (GABS).

Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) this week, Sekwakwa shot down the suggestion, and blamed the  over-expenditure on employees issuing out wrong government purchase orders (GPOs) for wrong entries in the accounting and budgeting system.
