Horticulture market thriving

Business is thriving at the Botswana Horticultural Market, which was established eight months ago. The majority of products sold at the market are supplied by local farmers.

The Botswana Horticultural Market is a joint venture between the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) and the Botswana Horticultural Council. The Ministry of Agriculture is represented on the board of directors.

The former car assembly plant at Block 8 in Gaborone has become a bustle of activity as farmers offload their products. The market master, Petrus Koswane, revealed in an interview that since their establishment in October, they have sold horticultural products for P8 million. Products valued at P5 million were sourced locally while the rest were from outside the country, especially South Africa.  Koswane said since they opened, they have met more than fifty percent of their target. He hailed May as their best month, adding that their performance is improving.
