Uncompetitive salaries at the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) have resulted in the organisation losing experienced staff.

During stakeholder meeting recently, LEA CEO, Tebogo Matome explained that staff turnover is a burning issue because the organisation cannot afford to pay salaries at the right level. "We are experiencing high staff turnover because of uncompetitive salaries which are lower than those offered by other parastatals and we are continuously losing some of them particularly in the finance and accounting departments," he explained.

Matome said employees in the organisation are leaving in high numbers because of lack of financial rewards. "We are understaffed, especially client-serving staff. We could be having a business trainer in each of our 15 sites but because of this problem, one business advisor will cover three sites and this is affecting our performance because clients are supposed to wait for him to come to the region" he said.
