High-profile Swedish investors to scout for prospects

More than 25 high-powered Swedish investors and representatives of trade agencies will jet into Gaborone next week in search of investment and joint venture opportunities in various sectors of the economy.

The delegation will accompany Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf and his wife Queen Silvia of Sweden, who will be in town for an official visit between March 22 and 25. Information made available to BusinessWeek indicates that the Swedish delegation has a busy schedule, kicking off with a briefing at the Bank of Botswana before engaging various local captains of industry.

The delegation will participate in a high-level roundtable discussion on energy infrastructure and information communications technology (ICT) featuring several ministries and the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC). The Swedes are already intimately involved in the local power sector, having completed the US$84 million (P571 million) electrification of 100 villages last year and also facilitating the electrification of clinics, schools and dikgotla in the various villages.
