Govt opening up tourism sector to Batswana

Government will soon invite interested Batswana to participate in the tourism development of 100 monuments and heritage sites as part of efforts to open up the industry to citizens.

The Minister of environment, wildlife and tourism, Tshekedi Khama told Parliament last week that his ministry has also secured rights to land and its regulation to allow more access and control by citizens in tourism development.

“We are currently relaxing requirements for some of the hunting concession areas with a view to allocating them for tourism development by Batswana,” Khama said. The minister said they will soon be issuing out Expressions of Interest (EOI) for tourism development by communities in the 100 monuments and heritage sites across the country.
