Govt moves to slash business red tape

FRANCISTOWN: Government is coming up with measures to lessen red tape with a view to improving the country's global competitiveness that has been on a decline over the last three years.

This was said by the Principal Commercial Affairs Officer at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MIT), Dichaba Molobe, on Friday when briefing stakeholders on progress in cutting red tape in the public service order to improve the country's global competitiveness.MIT chairs a committee assigned to draft reforms that could help the country improve its competitiveness globally.

Stakeholders made recommendations last year on how the government could improve its global competitiveness and ease of doing business in Botswana.This followed an annual report by the World Economic Forum indicating that the country's global competitiveness had been sliding for the past three years.The report also said the country did not offer a conducive environment for doing business.Molobe said that the government was currently working on enacting e-legislation that would allow private companies to do business with the government more easily.
