Govt agencies brainstorm over SACU revenue threat

Several government ministries and agencies plan to strategise on a final consultants' report that, if adopted at a key meeting next month, could result in the country losing P8 billion in SACU revenues by 2019.

With the meeting being postponed from the scheduled April 4 to April 8 period, the delay has given Botswana room to strategise and consolidate. The ministries of Finance and Development Planning; Trade and Industry; Agriculture as well as BURS, BIDPA, the Bank of Botswana and the Attorney General's Chambers, formulated Botswana's initial response to draft proposals made in January.
