Furore over fracking reports in CBM exploration

Government says fracking is banned in the country and no company has been authorised to use Coal Bed Methane (CBM) exploration and mining method.

The denial comes after this week’s allegations from South Africa that several exploration companies in Botswana are using the environmentally harmful method, which contaminates water resources.

Fracking is a gas mining technique in which water mixed with corrosive chemicals is pumped to great depths below the surface to fracture rocks and release gas bound in fissures in the rock.
