Fuel routes to Mozambique, Zimbabwe opened

New kid on the block, Puma Energy Botswana, has pioneered fuel supplies from Mozambique and Zimbabwe, marking the first time the local petroleum sector has diversified away from South Africa.

For 2011 and beyond, government, empowered by NDP 10 and supported by the local retailers, is prioritising the diversification of fuel supplies away from South Africa. At present, Botswana receives nearly all its 850 million litres of fuel per annum from South Africa, with the Tarlton Depot accounting for about 76 percent of this.

Yesterday, the Managing Director of Puma Energy Botswana, Mahube Mpugwa, told Mmegi supplies from Mozambique and Zimbabwe were augmenting the new entrant's product sourced through South Africa. Puma Energy took over BP Botswana earlier in the year following a successful acquisition process late last year.
