Francistown experiences boom in banking 'interest'

FRANCISTOWN: The economic boom in Francistown, which is largely attributed to the resurgence in mining in the northern part of the country, has not gone unnoticed by banking institutions which are in a rush to open new branches in Botswana's second city.

The Bank of Baroda will soon open its first branch outside Gaborone in Francistown. It is renovating an office opposite Barclays Bank along Blue Jacket Street. 

A senior manger at the Indian bank, Ravi Sharama, says the branch is scheduled for opening in mid November. "We have been operational in the country for about seven years now," Sharama says, "and we have plans to expand our services throughout the country.
