Firestone Diamonds has described initial results from core drilling at its Tsabong kimberlite project as "very encouraging."

The advanced programme covered 14 kimberlites including the diamondiferous 75-hectare MK31 kimberlite.

"With 81 kimberlites discovered to date in Tsabong, of which 14 are diamondiferous, the objective for Firestone is to identify and evaluate the kimberlites with economic potential as rapidly as possible," said CEO Philip Kenny. "Initial results from core drilling are very encouraging and we look forward to results from the extensive bulk sampling that we plan to undertake in 2008." The diamond exploration company announced earlier this year that it had discovered four new kimberlites at the Tsabong Project in central Botswana. To date, the company has discovered 74 kimberlites in this project, which was launched in November 2006.
