Ex-minister castigates government on CEE

Former cabinet minister, Neo Moroka has lambasted government for what he termed "half-heartedness" in supporting citizen businesses.

The ex-minister joined business leaders at a consultative forum (pitso)  in slamming government for dragging its feet in effecting a Citizen Economic Empowerment (CEE) policy failing to adequately support citizen-owned business.  "This is a very rich country, blessed with diamonds and other resources, yet there are very few if any citizens that we can call "rich people,'" said Moroka, who was trade and industry minister between 2004 and 2009.

"If a citizen gets rich, he has either stolen or bribed and if he does so (legally) we take offence. "If you look at the way we do business in this country, it seems we care more about the plight of the poor which is good, but we do this at the expense of those who can sustainably create jobs and pull people out of poverty."
