Eskom disappoints Mmamabula again

The off-take of the much-anticipated Mmamabula Energy Project(MEP) suffered another setback this week when regional power giant, Eskom of South Africa announced it will further delay the signing of Power Purchasing Agreements (PPAs) with Independent Power Producers(IPPs).

For MEP to start rolling, it requires a commitment in the form of PPAs from Eskom, which is supposed to consume 75 percent of the power generated from the project.

According to Miningmx, Eskom CEO Jacob Maroga told a media briefing in Johannesburg this week that the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) has until the end of June next year to make a determination on their application for purchasing power from IPPs.
