Engineers' body to check

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Johnnie Swartz said Engineers' Registration Board (ERB) would promote excellent performance and professionalism by ensuring that all engineers adhered to laid down rules and regulations.
"I am reminded of the Law Society of Botswana, a non-profit making organisation that aims to regulate the behaviour and uphold the standards of legal practices in Botswana," Swartz said. "In my view, they have been doing a good job and I believe we can draw from their experience." The minister said government believed in self-regulation because it is "our conviction that professionals know better what should happen". The launch of ERB ushered in a new era where engineering would be practised in a regulated environment devoid of potential risks of truancy and professional misdemeanours, he noted.
