Unlike South Africa and Namibia, which have deliberate policies like Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) that require a certain percentage that is reserved for local citizens, Botswana does not.
Answering a question from Botswana Confederation of Commerce , Industry and Manpower (BOCCIM)'s president Modiri Mbaakanyi on what the government was doing to help Batswana in this regard, Botswana Diamond Hub Coordinator Dr Akolang Tombale said the government will not force the Sightholders to have Batswana as partners because "its not the way to go and its not sustainable".
