Discovery secures water supply for mine

MAUN: Discovery Metals Limited and the North West District Council (NWDC) have completed a partnership for the supply of water to the Boseto Copper Mine and the mining township near Toteng village.

Under the partnership, Discovery is to rehabilitate the Semolo water plant, which is owned by NWDC, and connect it to the mine. Maun administration authority chairman, Galaletsang Mhapha, last week disclosed this.  He said Discovery Metals, which is in the process of constructing the mine company's staff houses for its 100 percent owned project, approached NWDC for the joint partnership project. The project is expected to address water supply concerns to the proposed township following realization that the existing Semolo treatment plant, initially projected to adequately supply water to the mine, has limited capacity. The mine is scheduled for commissioning in the first half of 2012.

The Boseto project, which will be developed at a cost of about $175-million, is expected to deliver between 34,400 tonnes and 36 400 tonnes of copper per year copper and between one million and 1.1 million ounces of silver a year.
