Diamond shortages

In the old days of communism, people would watch the leaders of the Soviet Union standing on the Kremlin balcony and use the distance between the leader and the other individuals to infer what kinds of major policy decisions they'd make. Each word that was uttered was carefully analyzed for any hidden meanings.

When the diamond industry was still opaque and non-transparent, the intentions of the dominant producer were also very often subject to interpretations based on reading between the lines and looking at who appears with whom. It was quite a guessing game.

Today we don't have to guess what De Beers believes or thinks.
