The Lobatse-based Department of Geological Survey (DGS) has been split, with its prospecting licensing activities moving to Gaborone.

The separation is in line with a cabinet-sanctioned overhaul aimed at enhancing service delivery.Early last year, Mmegi Business revealed that the DGS would be split with the research and excellence unit operating independently of the licensing wing. The move is meant to provide high quality information to mineral explorers.

The research unit was to remain at headquarters in Lobatse while licensing moves to Gaborone. On Friday, officials of the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources said the prospecting licensing unit would move to the Department of Mines in Gaborone with effect from November 5, while non-confidential prospecting reports would remain in Lobatse.
