DCI makes surprise comeback

The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) continued to trade in negative territory during the first four trading days of the past week. But buoyed by a gain in insurance giant BIHL, the DCI made a surprise comeback on Friday and finished the day in the positive territory.

Accordingly, the DCI gained a modest 0.72 percent to finish the week above the 6,500-point mark. On the other hand, the FCI was flat at 1,171.80 points on thin volumes on the Foreign Equity Main Board.

The local equity market has been on a steep slide, overwhelmed by the deepening nature of the world recession and uncertainty about the duration of the crisis.
