The groundbreaking programme, established in November 2020, continues to inspire and empower young minds across Botswana by introducing them to the vast opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Entrepreneurship (STEAME), with a special focus on aviation and aerospace technologies.
Born in the midst of a global pandemic, Fly For STEAME has already positively impacted over 1,000 young people, with participants from urban and rural areas, including Gaborone, Francistown, Jwaneng, Takatokwane, and Mabuasehube, amongst others. The initiative combined introductory flight, robotics and coding workshops, motivational talks, and leadership sessions to unlock curiosity and fuel ambition in young minds.
“We are proud to have reached so many young people, especially girls, through this programme. Seeing their excitement and hearing their stories of newfound inspiration motivates us to continue making a difference,” said Letlhogonolo Peter, media personnel at Dare To Dream.
Odirile Tamajobe, managing director of Liquid Intelligent Technologies Botswana, said the partnership with Dare To Dream Foundation is a proud milestone to ensure a digitally connected Botswana.
“Being this initiative's official internet connectivity partner gives us access to ensuring that the next generation of Batswana is armed with the relevant digital skills, reaffirming our commitment to nurturing young talent. “We aim to inspire the next generation to boldly take up space and lead innovation,” he said. The eighth edition offered participants an unforgettable flight experience over Gaborone. The flights were made possible through partnerships with Air Botswana and the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana, whose support has been instrumental in raising awareness about the exciting potential within aviation and aerospace.
Dare To Dream’s broader mission includes the establishment of a Youth Aviation Development Hangar at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for innovation, providing hands-on aerospace experiences, immersive education, and resources to position Botswana as a leader in youth aviation development within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
