CTO deregisters 18 private garages

The Central Transport Organisation (CTO) has removed 18 private garages from its register of accredited contractors, as part of its continuous quality assessment and enhancement processes.

The affected businesses stand to lose out on CTO's P697 million recurrent budget for 2011/12, most of which will go towards maintenance of the government fleet. The CTO only awards maintenance tenders to contractors on its accreditation register, listing these under three categories. These are for general service, preventative maintenance and auto electrics; panel beating, spray painting, welding and fabrication; and component overhaul.

While the latest batch of garages to be deregistered comprises businesses from across the country, Gaborone makes up half of the casualties, with Mogoditshane accounting for three.
