CSO criticised for late, inaccurate data

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has come under attack from the business community for releasing late, and often inaccurate, information.

At a CSO-sponsored seminar for BOCCIM and the wider business community on the role and mandate of the CSO as an information collection and dissemination body, many expressed concern on the timeliness and accuracy of CSO data and urged it to do more to help businesses make informed decisions.

Examples cited were GDP figures for the second quarter being released on the eve of the last quarter of the year. The workshop, which was held at the Maharaja Conference Centre yesterday, also heard of incidences CSO data differed from those provided by other institutions such as the Bank of Botswana (BoB).
