Contest to name historic Karowe diamond launched

Batswana have an opportunity to name the world’s second largest diamond, which was discovered at Karowe Mine near Orapa two months ago.

According to the Lucara Diamond Corporation Chief Executive Officer, William Lamb, the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Kitso Mokaila is the one who suggested that they let Batswana name the diamond.

“During one of his visits, the minister thought it would be a great idea to give Batswana an opportunity to name the stone as it belonged to them,” he said, adding that Batswana have up to January 28, 2016 to name the diamond.
