Despite inflation reaching record lows during the year, the nightmare that began with the global recession in 2009 continued to engulf most consumers this year, with indebtedness rising as households fought to make ends meet.


The continued lack of an inflation-beating wage review for the public service and the private sector’s growth restrained by lower government spending, workers in 2013 again found themselves with diminishing disposable incomes.
