Confusion as MoU on Diamond institute collapses

Confusion reigned at the Oodi College of Applied Arts and Technology (OCAART) last week when the signing of a MOU between Botswana and India to establish a P25 million diamond institute failed to take place.

A verbal war, witnessed by Mmegi, erupted among officials of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), the Diamond Hub and a visiting Indian Diamond Institute (IDI) over lack of consultations and clarity of roles in the project. This led to the abandonment of the signing ceremony.

OCAART  has been designated to house the new institute, and the tour was to show the Indian delegation the institute's new home. The principal of OCAART, Mildred Boduwe and Leabaneng Otlhogile, a chief technical education officer at the MoESD were to sign the MoU with the Indian delegation after a tour of the college.
