Commuters face fare hike

The Gaborone Taxi and Local Bus Association (GTLBA) will this week convene a meeting to respond to consider retail fuel pump price hikes and their implications on fares.

On Monday government increased both unleaded and leaded replacement petrol by 65thebe per litre, diesel by 75thebe per litre and illuminating paraffin by 62thebe per litre.
A statement from the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR) said continuing worldwide increases in crude oil prices prompt the increases in Botswana.

"Prices have continued to increase and stood at US$122.03 on the 15th May 2008," reads the statement, adding that Government will continue to monitor the situation on a monthly basis.
