Coega likely to end SADC's wharf problems

PORT ELIZABETH: Marketing and Communications Manager of Coega Development Corporation (Pty) Ltd., Vuyelwa Qinga-Vika, is confident that South Africa's first multi-billion Rand Deep Water Port will be the most successful.

 In an interview with the press last Friday, Qinga-Vika said that the project, that has so far created jobs for 18 000 people during construction stage, will be the first of its kind in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

She said that the project came after it was realised that the country's ports were not coping with congestion and that the situation was likely to worsen in 15 years' time. 
"It has also been realised that ships wait too long at Durban Port and some are directed to Port Elizabeth to offload, hence Coega is best-placed," she said.
