Retail chain Choppies plans to sell part of its shares to the public, bringing the company closer to Batswana, CEO Ramachandran Ottappah has said.

Addressing a press conference in Gaborone yesterday, the CEO said although details of how many shares will be sold to the public are still being worked out, Choppies has already begun the process of turning into a public company and has lodged enquiries about listing with the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE).

"The company has grown tremendously since we opened our first shop in 1986 in Lobatse," Ottappah said. "We have come to a stage where we want to grow the business to the next level and to share the success we have enjoyed with the people of Botswana.  "Our aim is to be a significant player in the retail sector, not only in Botswana but in the region as well."
