The Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) has assisted more than 2,280 enterprises to the tune of P2 billion, creating over 11,000 jobs in the process since its inception eight years ago.

Out of this amount, about P187 million has been pumped into the hotel and restaurants industry across the country, with P97 million being allocated to female-owned businesses, P81 million to male owned businesses and the remaining P9 million allocated to the youth.

According to the assistant minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Sadique Kebonang government is currently diversifying the economy from mineral dependency, hence why sectors such as manufacturing, services, trade, hotels and restaurants and communications should be supported. “As government we will continue to provide the necessary support to local enterprises to improve their performance and become competitive,” said Kebonang. He added that economic development and employment creation should be shared responsibility between government and the private sector. He said government’s role is primarily a facilitative one, which is to create an environment conducive to investment and business growth. “The private sector on the other hand should take advantage of government initiatives to invest or flourish existing businesses,” he added.
