Under pressure: More businesses are hiking their prices in the wake of the Pula adjustment FILE PIC

The Competition and Consumer Authority (CCA) says it has dispatched teams to monitor price movements around the country’s businesses, in the wake of increases linked to the recent adjustment of the Pula exchange rate framework.

Since government adjusted the Pula’s rate of crawl downwards and increased banks’ trading margins for foreign currency trade with the Bank of Botswana, several businesses have adjusted their prices by up to ten percent.

The moves are expected to be inflationary and add to consumers’ woes in a year in which the economy is under pressure and where government’s own finances are strained.
