Can Botswana rival Dubai as a diamond centre?

As Botswana positions itself to be a world diamond centre, the UAE, which is not a diamond producing country is making headway towards establishing itself as a world diamond centre, through its Dubai Multi Commodities centre(DMCC) and Dubai Diamond Exchange(DDE).

In just under 10 years, the  DMCC, which opened in 2002, the Dubai diamond centre has seen diamonds coming their way  rising to $39 billion in 2011, from a mere $5million in 2002.

This is where Botswana Minerals, Energy and Water resources Minister Kitso Mokaila and his team are visiting this week to learn a few  diamond benefaction tricks as Dubai  hosts the 2013 Diamond conference.
