Cabinet to consider Kazungula Bridge funding

The Ministry of Transport and Communications is reportedly preparing a document, which Cabinet will use to consider how to raise the US$95 million required to build the critical Kazungula Bridge, Business Today has learnt.

Botswana and Zambia, the two countries to be directly linked by the bridge, are co-financing the US$190 million (P1.3 billion) project, which includes border, trade and other facilities.  The bridge will replace the pontoon currently used at great inconvenience to trade, tourism and immigration.

This week, the Coordinator of the Transport Hub, Thapelo Leareng, told Business Today the ministry had concluded designs and other studies for the bridge, paving way for funding.  "We have finalised the designs and studies for the project.  The funding is not an issue for our ministry but for the finance ministry.
