Bulls returning to BSE

After share prices slumped due to profit taking in the last quarter of 2010, investors on the local bourse made a modest recovery in the first three months of the year with the mainstream Domestic Companies Index (DCI), surging 8 percent.

The DCI surged by 8.19 percent to 6,938.33 points during the quarter on the back of increased trading activities while on the Foreign Equity Main Board, the Foreign Companies Index (FCI), jumped by 7.68 percent to 1,802.41 points, returning to its pre-recession levels lifted by good prospecting results from some listed mining counters coupled with firmer commodity prices on the international markets.

Bargain hunters bounced back onto the market in the quarter with activity and appetite spurred by the reporting season as some companies reported good profits as the economic climate warms up following the global economic recession.
