BTC privatisation on track- CEO

The anticipated privatisation of the Botswana Telecommunications Corporations (BTC) is on track, BTC officials told a media briefing recently.

The chairman of the BTC board, Leonard Makwinja, said the corporation was ready for privatisation, though it was not directly in control of the process.   "We are not selling ourselves," he said in response to a question, adding that the public enterprises evaluation and privatisation agency, (PEEPA), was in charge of the exercise.

Chief Executive Officer, Paul Taylor, said they were working closely with the authorities handling the exercise. The model adopted for the privatisation of BTC is such that the government will hold a significant stake in the new entity.
