BR to introduce e-ticketing

FRANCISTOWN: Botswana Railways (BR) plans to introduce electronic ticketing and to install more barriers at level crossings, in order to enhance passenger safety and minimise accidents.

Speaking on Friday at a Suppliers' Forum at Thapama Hotel in Francistown, BR Chief Mechanical Engineer Michael Juma said the e-ticketing system, which is only at the planning stage, will be introduced as part of the parastal's turnaround strategy.

"This will give us a clear indication of how many tickets were sold prior to passengers' embarkation," Juma said. "We want to embark on crowd control because stampedes have been the root cause of many of our accidents. It is no good to have our valued customers getting injured or losing their lives."
